The Ashtanga Yoga Research Center

We are an Ashtanga Yoga Research Center primarily focusing on teaching the traditional self-practice method of Ashtanga (Mysore Style). Our classes are small and we give a lot of private attention to each student. Students are taught with their individual needs in mind, to further their personal growth and practice. We also focus on the sciences of Ayurveda and Tantra and integrate them into the practices of Ashtanga Yoga. Anthony (Prem) Carlisi, is  a Certified , 30-year plus practitioner/teacher, and Heather (Radha) Duplex, is an Authorized, 20-year plus practitioner/teacher. They are officially certified/authorized by our late, beloved, Guruji, Sri K. Pattabhi Jois, of Mysore, India.

Mysore method explained

Beginner: The "Mysore" class (self-practice with individual instruction) is designed to create an environment that  allows you to learn the traditional method of Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga in a manner appropriate for your body and mind. You'll receive individual attention while getting specific therapeutic adjustments, in a group setting. You are guided one pose at a time, to slowly build your practice. This method creates a solid foundation that will last a life time!  You receive a private session every time you come to class.  This will allow you to feel the beauty and power of Ashtanga yoga practice in its original, traditional form. We request a month commitment, this will insure the greatest benefits. If this is not possible, 2 weeks is the minimum for beginner.

Regular Mysore Practitioners: Students who are regularly practicing Mysore method. Regular Mysore students will benefit from our combined 50 years of experience practicing and teaching Ashtanga Yoga. Find out if you're truly practicing correctly, effectively and appropriately. We can help you to move to the next level of awareness and proficiency in the postures so you can feel the true benefits of your practice.  We have many insights to share about the gross and subtle aspects of the Ashtanga method that often times never get addressed in most class rooms (alignment, breath, bandha, energy lines, injury (yoga therapy), modification etc...) You'll get a therapeutic tune-up in a "workshop" setting as we work closely with you to find what works best for your body and mind. Regularly practicing Mysore students are welcome to come in for one week minimum, but are encouraged to stay for one month or more to get the maximum benefit. 

For all students, along with our regular classes we hold  weekly discussions on topics such as diet, sex, yogic lifestyle, meditation, etc... (these sessions are included in the tuition price. This gives you an opportunity to ask any questions and for us to discuss important topics that facilitate a deeper understanding of what it is we are sharing.

Ashtanga Yoga, Ayurveda, Tantra Demystified - One week intensive

This workshop will give great information for those of you who are interested in having a firm foundation for being a solid practitioner or teacher. 

February 6-11th, 2011 (Sunday through Friday)

The secrets to building a life-long practice! This intensive will offer a balanced combination of theory and experience.

Included:
  • Foundation for a life long practice for beginners and  advanced students
  • What it means to personalize your practice within the traditional Mysore method
  • Modification and refinement  of asana without the use of props
  • Tangible experience of Breath and Bandha
  • Intermediate and Advanced practice Keystones; the energetic qualities of the practice using simple methods based on Prems book, "The Only Way Out Is In"
  • Ayurvedic principles for vibrant health and well being
  • Yogic Nutrition to further your practice
  • Ashtanga Yoga and Aging- Can I still do this practice when I'm old and gray?
  • Tantric sexual practices and meditations


During this course we will explore and share some of the mysteries of the practices of Ashtanga Yoga, Ayurveda, and Tantra.  We will have a morning Mysore/self practice class everyday--as well as workshops in the afternoon on the concepts from Prem's book, The Only Way Out Is In, A Modern Day Yogi's Commentary on the Synergy of Ashtanga Yoga, Ayurveda, and Tantra.  Prem and Radha will add their combined 50-plus years experience on principles of the pracitce of Ashtanga vinyasa Yoga (bandha,breath,drishti, etc...), alignment, adjustments, ashtanga vinyasa pranayama, , ayurvedic nutrition/ cooking, tantric meditation and sexuality.   They focus on making the Ashtanga practice appropriate for each unique individual as well as teaching how to create a daily lifestyle out of the practices of Ashtanga, Ayurveda  and Tantra in a fun, relaxed and informative way.

Note: this is not a Teacher Training

July 17-22, 2011 (Sunday through Friday) This training will help fine tune your skills as an Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga teacher. We will focus primarily on how to individualize each students practice to suit their needs.
  • You will learn the correct form and function of each pose in primary series
  • You will learn how to observe a body and give appropriate adjustments.
  • You will learn how to use Ayurveda as a teaching tool.
  • You will learn how to manage your own energy in the room.


AND MORE! Along with all this you get personalized expertise of 2 seasoned teachers who will open up many new ways to view your own practice and teaching.
